Overview

The functioning of the female body can change over time, and as a woman gets older she may be at risk of developing certain conditions that a man will not.

The female form is biologically different to the male form, both internally and externally. Hormonal changes, wear and tear, and general functioning can lead to a number of concerns that affect women specifically, and The One Clinic have dedicated part of their provision to improving a woman’s overall health and well-being.

At a 30 minute consultation, the doctor may discuss one or more of these concerns:

Breast screening – Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer that affects women. The likelihood of developing this condition increases with age, when taking certain medications and if it’s in your family’s medical history. Checking the breasts regularly will help to detect the condition at an early stage, which may also help with treatment. We advise women over the age of 50 to undergo medical breast screening to increase their chance of early detection.

Menopause – This usually affects women over the age of 50, and can lead to a variety of concerns that can impact a woman’s overall quality of life. As levels of oestrogen naturally decline with age, we may consider hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to help restore a more normal functioning of the body.

Smear tests – These are usually required every 3 years, unless there has been a previous issue (such as the detection of abnormal cells). Regular screening can help to identify any changes in the cervix, and the chances of developing cervical cancer. Early detection can help with further treatment.

FAQ

Who is suitable for a women’s health assessment?

The One Clinic would always advise women to attend regular health checks. Whilst many people get to know their body, and can sense when something isn’t right, having a professional assessment will ensure the investigation is more in-depth.

What are the benefits?

An assessment of this nature is intended to help maintain good health, and can help a woman to manage the changes that occur as the body gets older, as well as detect any possible future concerns.

Who will I see?

One of our doctors will see you and carry out the examination(s). Our doctors have extensive medical knowledge, and can suggest the most appropriate form of treatment if it is needed. We work closely with other local medical professionals so you can feel assured that you will continue to be in safe hands if for any reason you require a referral.

Will all appointments be at The One Clinic?

The initial appointment will be carried out at The One Clinic. Further appointments may also be at the clinic unless treatment requires different facilities.

Will I need to be seen frequently?

Treatment frequency will depend on the individual, however, regular check-ups are advisable.
