Overview

Many people consider the appearance of cellulite to be unattractive, making the person seem to have gained weight. The truth is, this condition is very common and can affect anyone of any age, and of any body size or weight – although it can be more pronounced in those who are further from their ideal shape and size. Common areas for cellulite to appear include the thighs and buttocks, but it is not unusual for people to also find cellulite affecting the stomach, upper arms and hips.

Cellulite is caused by normal fat under the skin that pushes against connective tissues. This causes the skin to “pucker”, resulting in a dimpled, rippled or lumpy texture. Women seem more prone to developing cellulite, which may be due to the differing pattern of the connective tissues, the fact they have more adipose tissue than men, men naturally have thicker skin and fat distributing itself differently in each gender. Many people with cellulite can find it appears to get worse as they get older, which may be due to the thinning of the skin and the loss in elastin.

Cellulite is not found to be harmful, and at The One Clinic we most commonly find that patients wishing to reduce the appearance of cellulite are doing so purely for aesthetic purposes, and because store-bought creams have failed to deliver on results. An effective treatment needs to strengthen the connective tissues, increase blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, and reduce fatty tissue. We can safely and effectively do just this for a smoother skin texture.
