If you have small white milk spots or yellowish bumps on your face or other areas of the body, the doctors at The One Clinic can help treat them with milia removal in Leicester.
If you have had milia for a while and it has not gone away on its own, our doctors will help find the right course of treatment for you, so you can eliminate milia for good.
We use minor surgery to effectively remove skin imperfections including milia, skin tags, moles and warts, so that you see smooth and clear skin. This all starts with an in-depth consultation so that we can assess your skin concerns and create a bespoke milia removal treatment plan.
What are milia?
Milia are tiny cysts that form on the skin and are about one to two millimetres in size. They appear as small white or yellow-domed-shaped bumps. They can look like whiteheads, pimples or acne, but are very different. For this reason, you should not squeeze or pick at them.
Milia bumps are a harmless skin condition that only tends to impact the look and texture of your skin. They are not normally painful or itchy, but they can cause you discomfort when they rub on clothing or against bed sheets during the night. This can cause them to become red or inflamed.
You will normally find milia on the face in groups on the nose, lips, eyelids, under eyes or cheeks. However, they can form in other areas of the body including the torso and genitalia.
Why do I have milia bumps?
The good news is that milia is a cosmetic skin problem that for most people will go away on its own. They form when skin flakes become trapped under the surface of the skin. They can also appear when keratin builds up and becomes trapped under the skin.
You cannot prevent most cases of milia forming, however, you can reduce the risk of developing certain types of milia forming. This includes avoiding excessive sun exposure, exfoliating your skin and using thick facial creams for short periods of time.
If you have milia that is not going away on its own, is causing skin irritation or impacting the way you see yourself, there are solutions to get rid of it. You should not do this alone, but rather visit a milia removal clinic that can help you find an effective treatment that is right for you.
At The One Clinic, we will assess your skin to give you a diagnosis of milia before taking you through our different treatment options. Our team of qualified doctors have over 45 years’ experience between them. They can help successfully remove milia and other skin issues without causing any harm to healthy tissue around them.
Milia removal treatment Leicester
At our skin clinic in Leicester, our doctors will recommend one of two popular milia removal treatments – CryoPen treatment or shave excision:
Cryotherapy or Cryosurgery
CryoPen treatment also known as cryotherapy is where the doctor will freeze the milia. This involves using cold liquid nitrogen to freeze the treatment area. The extreme cold helps to kill the milia cells, which results in the treated milia falling off naturally.
It is a fast and effective way to remove milia, taking around 5-10 seconds per treatment. This treatment does not cause any harm to healthy skin tissue and has minimal risk of causing any scarring.
It is a relatively painless treatment. You can expect to feel a sharp cooling sensation in the treatment area, which will go away. After your treatment, you may see redness or flushing in the area. A crust over the treatment area should fall off within 14 days. The skin can appear lighter in colour or pink, but this will return to normal in a few weeks.
Shave excision
This is a minor type of surgery, which involves using a sharp surgical scalpel to remove your milia. The doctor will start by injecting the treatment area with local anaesthetic to numb it. This will help make the whole process more comfortable for you.
The scalpel will shave and remove the milia from the skin, leaving behind your healthy skin tissue. You will be with a small wound, nothing bigger than a graze. With this treatment, you will not require any stitches.
You can expect the wound to heal in around 10 days. Similar to cryotherapy, the skin in the treatment area may look pink or slightly red for a few weeks. Because this uses an incision technique, you may be left with a very small scar, but most are left without any scarring.
